One Year in Business
One Year in Business
It has been one year since I opened my own business. I’ve written this post for the lurkers, the watchers, those wishing me to fail, and those afraid to reach out.
I never once thought I’d open my own business, but after nearly 20 years as a nurse working within a system I often found unjust and nonsensical, I was ready to create something of my own.
For context, I’m single, with no children. By society’s standards, this means I should have all the time in the world, no life, and no reason to struggle with my weight (yes, I’ve been told this to my face—more than once). But let me tell you, I’ve struggled with my weight for most of my adult life.
I spent more hours than I can count in gyms with trainers, doing OrangeTheory, kickboxing, Pilates—you name it. Did any of it help me lose weight? No. I didn’t know how to fuel my body properly. I’ve always struggled with hunger, and honestly, my weight will likely always be a challenge for me.
What I didn’t realize back then was how other parts of me—like my migraines and ADHD—were influencing why and how I ate. My food choices weren’t terrible, but they weren’t what my body needed. This is where working with a coach changed everything for me.
That experience inspired me to become a coach myself. I’ve always been curious about nutrition, but working with a coach pushed me to go back to school and deepen my knowledge.
What I’ve Learned in My First Year
Starting my business came with surprises. The people I thought would be my biggest supporters turned out to be my biggest critics—loudly and unapologetically. On the flip side, I’ve received incredible support from people I never expected. To those of you who’ve cheered me on: I am eternally grateful.
2024 has been a year of revealing true colors. I’ve let go of a lot of dead weight this year, and I’m better for it.
My business has had its share of wins, too. I’ve been fortunate to work with amazing clients who’ve put in the work and seen phenomenal progress. I don’t always post about their successes because many of my clients value their privacy, and as a private person myself, I completely respect that.
Why I’m Here
One of my goals has always been to help as many people as I can. If you can’t afford coaching or consultations, I still want to help. If you have questions or need guidance, feel free to reach out—I’m always here to offer advice where I can.
To those of you silently watching or waiting for me to fail: I’m still here, building what I once thought was impossible. And to those considering reaching out: Don’t wait. You’ll be glad you did.
Here’s to year two.
